You, like many other people, simply enjoy five-a-side soccer. It’s one of the fastest growing sports globally and has been receiving lots of attention. It differs from the normal football or soccer in many areas including the number of players, type of ball, boundaries, shoes, and much more.

However, one of the most notable differences is the playing field. In fact, you’ll realize that it isn’t usually referred to as a futsal pitch but rather a futsal court. Reason being it’s much smaller than the normal soccer pitch and is almost like a basketball court.

 

The Basics About The Futsal Court

The futsal court is very different from a soccer/football pitch in many ways. Firstly, it’s smaller in size to accommodate fewer players. Unlike the normal soccer where you have 11 players per team including the goalkeeper, in futsal, you have 5 per team including the goalie. Secondly, the soccer court has a soft surface made of natural grass or artificial turf while the one for futsal has a hard surface, made of things such as wood or synthetic material. Thirdly, there are no walls or board alongside its perimeter. Instead, you will just find line markings. And last but not least, the size of a court meant for an international game is different from that designed for a non-international game.

 

What Is The Dimension Of A Futsal Court?

There is always the conception that futsal field /court is the same size as a basketball court. This is probably because many people play on the basketball court or adapt an existing one to become a makeshift futsal pitch. Remember that dimensions are not identical for all courts, and there is a degree of variation here and there. However, the court for futsal is way bigger than that of basketball.

The one for basketball measures 28 (L) x 15(W) meters (92×49 ft.), summing up to a total area of 420 square meters (1400 sq.ft.). The one for futsal on average is 40(L) x 20(W) meters (131×65 ft.) adding up to a total of 800 square meters (2625 ft.). You can clearly see that it’s almost twice that of basketball: 420 and 800 sq.mts. Just like the field, the penalty area is also bigger.

 

Futsal Court For International Games

As stated earlier, the size of the court will depend on whether it’s for an international or a non-international game. The international games require a larger futsal pitch and the dimensions are as follows:

–Length: 38-42 meters (125-131 ft.)

–Width: 18-22 meters (59-72 ft.)

–Run-off enclosed field 2 x 2 (6.56 x 6.56 ft.) to 3 x 3 meters (9.84 x 9.84 ft.), and 3 x3 m is recommended

–Run-off open space court is 3m x 3m (9.84 x 9.84 ft.)

 

Futsal Court Dimensions For Non-International Matches

Courts for hosting non-international games are usually smaller. However, because the fields don’t have permanent walls or boards, it’s always easy to vary the dimensions to suit different needs. The following are the basic dimensions.

–Pitch length: 25-42meters (82-138 ft.)

–Pitch width: 15-25 meters (49-82 ft.)

–Run-off enclosed field: from 2m x 2m (6.56 x 6.56 ft.) to 3m x 3m (9.84 x 9.84 ft.)

–Run-off open pitch: 2m x 2m (6.56 x 6.56 ft.)

 

Other Important Features Of The Futsal Court

– Play court: It will be bordered by a line 8 cm (3.14 inches) wide preferably marked in yellow or white because of better visibility. The area outside the lines is called the boundaries. In soccer or football, you will find walls or boards alongside the lines, but in futsal such displays are not allowed on the court.

– The Playing Court Division: The pitch is divided into 2 equal halves and at the center of the middle line you will find a circle with a diameter of 6 meters (19.69 ft.) and a radius of 3 meters.

– The Penalty Area: Is a zone marked around each of the goals. It is basically represents a zone made out by drawing two quarter circles with a radius of 6 meters (19.69 ft.) from each of the goal posts. There is a first penalty spot which is exactly 6 meters from the center/ midpoint of the goal line and a Second Penalty Spot that is 10 meters (32.8 ft.) from the center of the goal posts.

– Goals: A goal is placed on the center of each goal line and it consists of two upright posts that are united by a horizontal bar, so as to form a vertical rectangle shape. Futsal Court Cost

You can clearly see that the size isn’t fixed but varies within a given range. The futsal court cost will depend on many things. First, the size of the court. The bigger the court, the more costly it becomes.

Second, the materials are an important factor. High-grade materials last longer and offer a better playing surface but are more expensive to buy.

Third, the company setting up the court. Usually, experienced or well-known firms will charge a higher fee compared to a newly established one.
